External Cylindrical Grinding is a process used to shape the outside surface of a cylindrical workpiece. The workpiece is fed axially towards the grinding wheel by a precision feed mechanism, and the grinding wheel moves radially across the surface of the workpiece to remove material.
In centerless grinding, the workpiece is not mounted between centers but instead supported by a workrest blade and a regulating wheel. The regulating wheel is positioned at an angle to the grinding wheel and serves to control the rotational speed and feed rate of the workpiece. This method is typically used for longer and larger workpieces.
