What are carbide cut-off teeth? Cemented carbide cut-off teeth are made up of cemented carbide head teeth brazed to a cut-off tooth seat and are generally used in coal mining machines to cut and extract coal directly, hence the name cemented carbide coal cut-off teeth.

What is the principle of carbide cut-off teeth? The cut-off tooth is propelled through the coal seam in an impact rotary manner to cut and is subjected to both high pressure stresses and shear bending stresses. This is a cyclical and alternating impact load, and frictional heat is generated during the construction process due to intense friction between the cutter and the coal seam, which may be accompanied by a variety of mechanical behaviours such as local yielding, contact fatigue, corrosion and fracture throughout the wear process.

Can carbide cut-offs also fail? In the course of coal seam excavation, carbide cut-offs break down due to the high pressure stress on the surface caused by the impact load. The stress state of carbide cut-off teeth is susceptible to impact fatigue and thermal fatigue cracking under alternating loads. In addition, micro-defects on the surface or inside the tooth head can also cause stress concentration and damage to the carbide cut-off teeth.
